Bacillus coagulans, a nonpathogenic / non toxicogenic microorganism, is a rod shaped, Gram positive, endospore-forming Lactobacillus (spore is formed within the cell) bacteria. It is facultative anaerobe, grows optimally at 37°C and pH in the range 5.5 to 6.2.
After ingestion, the spore coat dissolves harmlessly leaving the spores to multiply. These bacteria have antagonistic effects on any bacteria that abnormally increase, resulting in restoration of a normal balance of the bacterial flora in the intestine. Once the intestinal bacterial flora is restored to its normal state, the spore-bearing lactic acid forming bacilli are quickly removed from the body without them being able to form colonies.
